Du-Et Jewish-Arab Newspaper

|
The initiative to publish a Jewish-Arab newspaper, comprising some of the most senior media figures in Israel, was born out of the Jewish-Arab Press Club, formed in 2001 by the Citizens' Accord Forum. The first newspaper of its kind in Israel, Du-Et was launched to address the almost total disconnection between the two worlds representing and forming public opinion in Israel – the Hebrew press and the Arabic press. It is this disconnection that plays a major role in the lack of familiarity and hostility that exists between Israel's Jewish and Arab communities. The Du-Et initiative is intended as a model for replication that firstly will confine its immediate impact to the Jewish-Arab conflict in Israel, but in 2005 has the potential to serve as a platform to re-open the now almost closed lines of communication between the Israeli and Palestinian peoples and those impacting their public opinions. Printed in both Hebrew and Arabic, Du-Et is distributed via the national press on a quarterly basis. The first of these newspapers appeared in October 2003 with an estimated readership of 900,000. The newspaper recently published its eighth issue.
